Overview
In The Etched Trace of Time: Six Decades of Anupam Sud is a humble attempt at presenting a sweeping retrospective of an artist who is as well-known for her technical expertise as for her indomitable spirit. As we take a bird's-eye view of the six decades of Anupam's career, we see the evolution of an artist into a force that had the capacity to add heft and gravitas to the medium of printmaking-a genre with great historical origins but somewhat overshadowed by the medium of painting, especially in the 19th-20th centuries. Honing her skills at the Slade School of Art, London, she returned to Delhi to gradually evolve into a prolific printmaker and a dedicated teacher at the city's College of Art; it also incidentally helped the city metamorphose into one of the most important centres of printmaking in the country.
But that's only a part of the Anupam story. Her ingenuity in printmaking has for long been celebrated but she never abandoned painting, an aspect that takes equal spotlight in this retrospective.
Through her paintings, prints and drawings (in which her strength is unanimously acknowledged by her seniors and peers alike), this survey not only showcases artworks but also the journey of the person that Anupam is, a dedicated teacher and mentor, and a persevering artist who has lived with art "like a liquid form that spreads inside your being.Archana Khare Ghose
